Tribute & Message From The Family

The Rev. Dr. V. Mack Goeglein passed away on January 22nd, 2018 at the age of 85. Mack will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 43 years, Judy Goeglein, and his children and step-children, Catharine (Mark), Ann (Paul), Joseph (Polly), Magdalena (Jason), Christiana (Josh), Julie, Martha, Carrie, and Tina, as well as his 27 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother George, step-daughter Lori, and grandson Luke Charles. Mack graduated from the seminary at the age of 25 in St Louis, Missouri and achieved a doctorate in Spiritual Direction at Ancilla College in 1995. Pastor Mack was an ordained minister of the Missouri Synod Lutheran Church and the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. He served parishes near Aberdeen, South Dakota; Casey, Iowa; Valparaiso, Indiana (where he also served as chaplain at Valparaiso University); Fort Wayne, Indiana; Pershing, Indiana; Richmond, Kentucky; Logansport, Indiana; Walton, Indiana; and Bryant, Indiana, where he celebrated his 50th anniversary of ordination. Mack had a bright, seeking mind, a generous heart, a passion for social justice, and a true and deep calling to serve others and share the love, mercy, and redemption of Jesus Christ. He was active in the Civil Rights movement and proud to join the Great March on Washington in 1963. He was a fiercely competitive Euchre player and a life-long golf enthusiast. He loved to read, debate, sing, tell corny jokes, listen to classical music, eat Judy's wonderful cooking, and lavish love upon his family, friends, and parishioners. He loved Nature and celebrated the wonder of God's magnificent Creation. Visitation and funeral for Mack will be held on Thursday, January 25th, 2018 at Epiphany Lutheran Church -- 6606 Maplecrest Rd, Fort Wayne, IN 46835. The visitation is at 10am and the funeral service is at 1pm with burial at Greenlawn Cemetary to follow. A light dinner will be served at Epiphany beginning at 3:30pm.
