Zackery (Rick) Rod Ormiston, 63, passed away on Friday, February 16, 2018. Born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Zackery was the son of the late Rodney Earl and Shirley Hope Ormiston. Rick was a dedicated husband, father, papaw, brother, uncle and friend. He shared his passion for quality, fantasy sports, wisecracks, and all things "geek" with anyone with an ear to bend. Rick graduated from Northrop High School in 1973 and Purdue University. He held certifications issued by the American Society for Quality for Quality Engineer, Quality Auditor and Manager of Quality. Most recently Rick was Supplier Quality Engineer at Dexter Axle in Elkhart, IN but spent most of his working years at Slater Steel, Fort Wayne, Indiana.
He liked sports; especially football. He enjoyed analyzing data, large and small. He was a problem solver and thrived on digging out data for use in business and personal applications. He was the hat and beard guy and always had a comeback, joke or pun to share. He had a big laugh and smile and was a cheerleader for all he knew. Although he struggled with speaking, at times, his written heartfelt messages of encouragement, congratulations or sympathy were thoughtful and had a lot of meaning. He was very proud of his family and loved to watch them excel at whatever activities they chose.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Cathy Jo (Wilkerson) Ormiston; daughters, Kathleen Hope (Eric) Englert and Rebecca Marie (Jeffrey) Manns; grandchildren, Savannah Hope Manns, Cameron Lee Englert, Gabriella Grace Manns, Bryce Zackery Englert; brothers, Patrick (Judy), Jeffrey (Sharon), and Timothy (Kathleen); sisters-in-law Jan Ormiston and Kristie Wilkerson; 11 nieces and nephews, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and close family friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rodney and Shirley Ormiston; in-laws, John and Opal Wilkerson; son-in-law, Jeffery Manns; brother, Michael Ormiston; and brothers-in-law, Richard Wilkerson and John Scott Wilkerson. Service at 11:00 am, Monday, March 5, 2018 at Messiah Lutheran Church, 7211 Stellhorn Rd with calling one hour prior. Calling at D. O.
